We may be trying a new idea here– asking a select variety of writers, editors, and other literary people one question– a “question of the month”– via email, then publishing, here, the responses. By variety, we mean writers from all backgrounds and styles; insider and outsider; establishment and DIY; high and low.

The first question, however, is this one: What should we ask?
