IS IT ART? PART TWO
Is kitsch as a concept over? It should be. Especially when you consider that the man who painted the above painting, “Murder in Mississippi,” Norman Rockwell, was long considered a kitsch artist, and was one of the main targets, along with O. Henry(!) and rock n’ roll(!!), of critic Dwight MacDonald’s provocative diatribe, “Masscult and Midcult.”
But what do you think? Is the painting art?
